The Fashion Design and Textile Technology Lab at NIILM University is a state-of-the-art facility designed to provide students with hands-on experience in all aspects of fashion design, garment construction, textile testing, and technological innovation. Our lab is equipped with industrial-grade tools and cutting-edge equipment to help students develop both creative and technical skills, preparing them for successful careers in the fashion and textile industries.

Key Features:

  • Garment Construction & Embroidery: The lab is equipped with industrial sewing machines, pressing equipment, and cutting tools, allowing students to turn their designs into finished garments. The embroidery section enables students to explore various techniques and add intricate details to their creations.

  • Handloom Weaving: Focused on preserving traditional textile skills, the lab provides students with the opportunity to learn handwoven fabric techniques, contributing to sustainable fashion practices and the preservation of cultural heritage.

  • Pattern Making, Grading & Draping: Students learn to create garment patterns, scale them for different sizes, and drape fabrics on mannequins to perfect fit and design. This section enhances technical and practical understanding of garment construction.

  • Design Concept & Fashion Illustration: A creative space for students to explore and develop fashion concepts. Here, they work on sketching, creating digital illustrations, and refining their design ideas using both traditional and digital tools.

  • Dyeing and Printing: In this section, students experiment with various dyeing and printing techniques, exploring color theory, surface ornamentation, and textile design. They learn the art of creating unique patterns and prints that bring their designs to life.

  • CAD (Computer-Aided Design): The CAD lab is equipped with specialized software for digital design, pattern making, and illustration. Students gain valuable experience in modern, tech-driven design processes, learning how to visualize their ideas digitally.

  • Textile Testing: Equipped with advanced instruments, the lab allows students to evaluate the quality and performance of textiles, testing for durability, colorfastness, and other important fabric properties to ensure industry standards.

  • Photography and Visual Merchandising: This studio allows students to develop their skills in creating compelling visuals of fashion pieces and designing retail displays. Students learn the art of product photography and visual merchandising to create engaging presentations.
