B. Sc. – Public Health (BPH)

A Bachelor of Science in Public Health (BPH) is an undergraduate program designed to provide students with a comprehensive understanding of public health principles, practices, and strategies aimed at promoting and protecting the health of populations. This interdisciplinary program integrates knowledge from various fields, including epidemiology, biostatistics, environmental health, social and behavioral sciences, and health policy and management.

The curriculum of a B.Sc. in Public Health covers a wide range of subjects relevant to public health practice and policy. Students learn about the determinants of health and disease, including biological, environmental, behavioral, and social factors that influence population health outcomes. They study epidemiological methods for investigating disease outbreaks, assessing health disparities, and evaluating the effectiveness of public health interventions.

Moreover, students receive training in biostatistics and research methods, learning how to collect, analyze, and interpret health data to inform public health decision-making and policy development. They develop skills in designing and implementing health surveys, conducting community needs assessments, and evaluating program outcomes to improve the health of communities.

Additionally, the program emphasizes the importance of health promotion and disease prevention strategies, including health education, behavior change interventions, and community-based initiatives. Students learn how to develop health communication campaigns, advocate for public health policies, and mobilize communities to address health challenges and promote health equity.

Fieldwork experiences and internships in public health organizations, government agencies, non-profit organizations, or healthcare settings allow students to apply their knowledge and skills in real-world settings. Under the supervision of public health professionals, students engage in public health practice, research, and policy advocacy, gaining hands-on experience in addressing public health issues and improving population health outcomes.

Upon completion of the program, graduates can pursue careers in a wide range of public health settings, including governmental public health agencies, non-profit organizations, healthcare organizations, research institutions, and international health organizations. They may work as public health educators, community health workers, epidemiologists, health policy analysts, or program managers, contributing to efforts to address pressing public health challenges and improve the health and well-being of populations locally, nationally, and globally.

Overall, a B.Sc. in Public Health provides students with the knowledge, skills, and practical experience needed to address complex public health issues and promote health equity and social justice. It prepares graduates to make meaningful contributions to improving population health and advancing the field of public health through research, practice, and advocacy.
