B. Sc (Hons), – Biotechnology

A Bachelor of Science (Honours) in Biotechnology provides students with a deep understanding of the interdisciplinary field that applies biological principles and techniques to develop products and processes for various applications. This program integrates knowledge from biology, chemistry, genetics, bioinformatics, and engineering to explore the manipulation of living organisms or their components for practical purposes. Biotechnology students delve into diverse areas such as genetic engineering, molecular biology, bioinformatics, biochemistry, and bioprocess engineering. They learn laboratory techniques for DNA manipulation, protein expression, cell culture, and fermentation, as well as computational methods for analyzing biological data. Courses cover topics such as recombinant DNA technology, gene editing, genomics, proteomics, metabolic engineering, and synthetic biology. Through hands-on laboratory experiments, research projects, and industry internships, students gain practical skills in molecular cloning, PCR, gene sequencing, protein purification, and bioreactor operation. Additionally, coursework often includes the study of biopharmaceuticals, agricultural biotechnology, environmental bioremediation, and industrial biomanufacturing. Graduates of a B.Sc. (Hons) in Biotechnology are prepared for diverse careers in pharmaceuticals, healthcare, agriculture, environmental science, food industry, and biotechnology companies. They are equipped to contribute to the development of novel therapeutics, vaccines, genetically modified crops, biofuels, biomaterials, and bioproducts, addressing pressing challenges and driving innovation in the rapidly evolving field of biotechnology.
